They would meet 2-3 times per week to run. The teacher that started the program must be proud, because Jen went on to be an 8-time Florida State champion and one of the greatest collegiate runners of all-time. Flotrack said it best when they awarded her the Flotrack Record-Breaker of the Year Award for 2009: It would be hard to argue that any collegiate athlete has ever had a better season than Jenny Barringer did during the 2009 track season. Over a span of six months Barringer produced 7 collegiate records over 5 different events, 2 NCAA championships, 1 U.S. championship, 1 American record and a 5th place finish at the World Championships. It seemed as though any time Jenny stepped to the track there was something special that was about to happen. Jen credits her success to a long-term, patient approach to her career. She adds, I also made sure I got nine hours of sleep per night. And let me tell you, in college thats hard to do! She was awarded The Bowerman in 2009. The award is named after legendary Oregon track coach, Bill Bowerman. Jen and Galen Rupp were the first male and female recipients of the award. It will be awarded annually to the most outstanding male and female NCAA track and field athlete in the country. At Aim High you will hear Jens story from high school to college and beyond. She is coached by 1996 Olympian (1500m) and 2003 Aim High Special Guest Juli Henner. Jen trains and resides in Monument, Colorado. She and her fiancι, Jason Simpson, have an October 2010 wedding planned. Contact: Jennifer & David Patruno aimhighrc@aol.com Jennifer: 315-430-4637 David at work: 315-472-0744 |
